Eyes Like the Summer.

My favorite thing about people is eyes. I love eye contact. Not in an overly-weird, too-much, WHY-ARE-YOU-LOOKING-AT-ME-SO-LONG-IN-THE-EYES??!, kind of way, but in a good healthy, observant way. I love people's eyes, I really do. I think eyes can tell you so much about a person. A couple tender examples? Okay, sure. I'll share. If you insist. No, really. Stop. You're embarassing me. Okay, so I had this friend during first semester that had been my really good friend the last part of ninth grade and all summer. Well, basically, high school happened, she got a boyfriend, and we just sort of drifted apart.

I had this wicked great theater student teacher, and we did the sweetest exercise of all times one day. It was all about connecting with your scene partner, and I got assigned to be with this girl. We hadn't really talked or whatever forever, but we were doing the exercises, and they were kind of out there, but when you actually did them, super tender and weirdly intimate. Honestly, you maybe don't realize it, but there are certain things that just connect you with someone. Shaking someone's hands, listening to their laugh, looking into their EYES! Okay, so this girl and I were paired up, and I thought it was going to be a little awkward because we hadn't really talked forever. So we were going through this exercise, and each thing was getting easier and easier, and I felt miles and miles closer to her. Then we got to the step where you just look at their eyes for a full minute and then write about it. Wow. We just sat nose to nose (sounds weird, but its not, readers, don't make it weird) for a full minute, and all I looked at were her eyes, and all she looked at were my eyes. And we both teared up a little bit, and when we wrote about it, I felt so much closer to her.

Eyes really are the window to the soul. You can say so many things that there just aren't words for with your eyes. I love eyes because they tell the truth. Someone can say one thing, but if you look in their eyes, you can see that they mean completely another. I love that. I think a person's eyes can literally tell you everything you need to know.

I love when you can look at someone's eyes and just know, without words. Just know. You just notice something about them. It can be sad sometimes, because eyes maybe tell you too much. Lately, in the eyes of Murt, there is something gone in his eyes. I think that was the final thing for me. Murt, or perhaps the artist formerly known as Murt, is gone. Dead, and gone. How sad is that? They aren't even the same eyes anymore. Oh, Murt. You are durt. HAHAHAHA. (The credit for that little limerick goes to Nicole Booth, who also coined the phrase Murky-Water Murt).

But, friends, I have some good news. If you go by someone's eyes, you're never going to be led astray or choose the wrong thing. Trust me. I have never chosen incorrectly when going with the eyes. Eyes are the soul.

There's this line in the song "Someday You Will Be Loved" by Death Cab for Cutie, that I have always LOVED. It's the very beginning of the song, and it goes, "I once knew a girl in the years of my youth, with eyes like the summer, all beauty and truth." Okay, woooow. That image is incred. Really. I just.. I can't even top that, honestly. I think I'll just end the post.

Love you guys! And your eyes :)
