Alex, the autistic kid behind me was grabbing at my back again. I looked back and smiled and kind of raised my eyebrows, like, Sweetheart. What are you doing?
"There's. There's hairs." -Alex
"Oh." (There were none.) "Well. Good job getting them!"
................... Long pause.............
"I just want to pet your head." (wide-eyed stare) -Alex
Kyle, the other autistic boy, volunteered for role play in Adult Roles today. He had to pick someone to play his wife. He came up and pointed about an inch from my nose and made my day.
"You're my wife!"
We then proceeded to act out the argument. He read his part with his ever-present smile and a cute hand on his hip. After every mean thing he said, he'd whisper "Sorry.." even though it wasn't in the script :)
After we finished our scene, we sat in two chairs next to each other and had two more slides on green-light, red-light communication. He smiled huge and wagged his finger back and forth at me the whole time.
"Red light commune-i-caaation is bad all across the nation." (outrageous giggle and slight convulsion of excitement.) "You were using red lights all over me, Wife!" -Kyle
In seminary later that day, I was sitting by him to help him with everything because they don't have peer tutors in seminary. Abruptly a few minutes after I gave him my cookie, he turned to me.
"Hey. We are friends!!"
And it made me so happy. Yes, we are.
I have this friend named Cody. We go way back. I'm talking the third grade. We used to pull our big t-shirts over our knees so we looked like midgets. (That's not politically incorrect, because they're Little People nowadays. But back then... It was pretty edgy.) And we'd make this weird noise. Lurrr. And jump at each other and try to knock each other down. Yes. I was weird. Who wasn't okay? I'd probably still do that because it'd still be hilarious. Moral of the story is, Cody is in Advanced Theatre with me, and he is the funniest kid in the whole world. Everything out of his mouth is funny.
Here's a typical day in English with him:
After we found out that Texas is derived from an Indian word for friend:
"Hey, Shelby. You're my Texas." (Bug-eyed, overbearing grin.)
We got our Scarlet Letters passed back finally. We had to use a letter that was at first a trial, but you turned it into something else. I picked C for Confrontation, which then became Creativity. I was writing about my monologue for Shakespeare. I looked over at Cody's, a gorgeously drawn B.
"What's the B for?" -me.
"Kissing..." -cheesy grin.
(It was really for brother.)
We had to quiz each other on the fifty states, and he was trying to help me without actually saying them.
"I don't have any kids, because I'm a ---" -Cody
"VIRGINIA!!!" -Cody and I.
Tori will appreciate this because we both make weird noises. Like, pretty much all the time. So I made a weird noise and Cody said the following:
"Sounded like a tree dolphin." -Cody.
"What's a tree dolphin?" -me.
"I dunno but my friend made a group on Facebook called Save the Tree Dolphins. I joined." -Cody.
Oh I like all my funny friends. Today was a good day. My mom made Peanut Butter and Jelly Muffins. Um. Here's the thing. PB & J is my favorite food. But in a muffin?? It's DIVINE. I'll find the recipe and put it on here. Guarantee it'll make anyone's entire day. Cause it always makes mine!
After school, my mom came and picked me up and we went for a really long drive. Sometimes we just have really good talks about everything. Thank heaven for moms. I love her. I think I'd probably go crazy without my mama. Well... I mean I'd go the bad crazy instead of my... just yeah. :) We stopped at Shade on a whim, and they were having a saaaaale! Holler. I love me a sale. And I really like the dresses at Shade as a general rule. Modest, classy, and seriously cute, body flattering clothing. I'm in heaven. I've really needed some new dresses lately, and I'm going to the temple with my best friend and his little sister tomorrow, so I tried on a few. It was like $36.... but for a quality dress, I was feeling pretty good about it. I just got my allowance, so I thought I could pay my mom back for it. Cause let's be honest, it fit like a literal dream. Oh I love that feeling. Love, love, love. Dresses are kind to the female body. I don't know

Oh, but here's an awesome story. I spy a thermal that I'm madly in love with...!! I'm a sucker for a thermal. Sue me. So I wanted to buy it and pay for it, but my mom just picked one out for my sister Brittany too and said she'd pay for both. But wait. Here's the awesome part. They told us there was a 20% discount on anything already on sale, but we didn't see the sale signs over everything we picked. So as a little surprise when we got our receipt? Dress? 20 bucks. Shirts? Barely 20 buckaroos. Ohhhh yeah. A Ballif always loves her a bargain.

Afterwards, my mama and I decided to get frozen yogurt, because I've never taken her to Yogurt Stop. She really liked it. They had all my favorite flavors and the fresh fruit was especially divine. It was such a good day. Cheesecake and pomegranite frozen yogurt? Yes, I'm aboard. Mmmmmm! Possibly the best thing in the whole world. I adore my mom. She is my best friend.
And we made a stop at Walmart to get a toy to ask my friend to the Christmas dance. And a toy sword for my theater teacher's sweet son, Duncan's surprise party, so he can train me. I'm so excited. I got him a Star Wars action figure... Anakin when he starts to turn evil in Attack of the Clones, and it has a backpack that shoots missiles. Just saying. He is gonna love it.
I rememember when I was seven, and I loved Star Wars. Sigh. Life goes so fast. I still am seven. And I still do love Star Wars. And just saying, if my cute friend Duncan doesn't like the toy... I'll probably keep it. (: Ah. To be seven again..
Anyway, it's been a wonderful day, and I know it will continue to be. I hope you had a good day too (: Love you!
I love you a lot. You make every day bright.
